FLYING FUCK (2000-present)
My sound installation “Flying Fuck” expresses the joyous laissez-faire innocence (and naivete) of sexual liberation that preceded the AIDS crisis. Antibiotics could treat venereal diseases and what else was there? “Flying Fuck” expresses this era of the 60s through the 80s on multiple levels, piercing the heavens through a condom-like cloud, while a soft roar fills the room with a reminder the looming danger. “Flying Fuck” uses donut-shaped latex balloons to naturally amplify the low frequencies made by vibrators piercing the centers. An invisible circular pattern of sound intensity creates a sound hole in the room, reflecting the visual image. No speakers or external sound sources are used.
The work was first exhibited at Moltkerei Werkstatt (Koln, Germany) Nov. 24 - Dec. 3, 2000. Subsequently it was exhibited at Kunstlerhaus (Dortmund, Germany) (Dec. 2000) and ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany) (Feb. 2001). It is schedule to be exhibited in the group exhibition “An AIDS Walkthrough” April 6-16, 2023. “An AIDS Walkthrough” aims to design an intergenerational dialogue on the impacts of HIV/AIDS on our society through various mediums. The two-week-long presentation will take place at the queer community and cultural center, Village, in Berlin, Germany in April 2023. This exhibition is sponsored by Instinct.berlin, an art organization initiated in 2015 by Eric LeRouge to present artists whose practice includes a perspective on queer identities.

Review of presentation of "Duet for Jumbo Balloons" and "Flying F*ck" as part of the "Lobreden auf Eros (In Praise of Eros)" exhibit at Moltkerei Werkstatt in Koeln, Germany (excerpt)
Translation from German: "In "Duet for Jumbo Balloons," the American performance artist Judy Dunaway demonstrated two giant balloons as a sound-fetish, by sliding Walkmen or vibrating dildos gently along the thick outer skin of the giant balloons. The piece was reminiscent of Matthew Barney's choreography. In a second work (the sound installation "Flying Fuck"), the artist worked with smaller, transparent balloons along with dildos (vibrators), which -- if turned on -- filled the area with a soft roar."
