Stripes Too (2017)
Stripes Too consists of real-time video animations projected into large translucent latex balloons. The real-time animations consist of lines traveling in various paths which, when projected onto and through the balloons, take on a curved 3-D appearance that simulates how sound waves travel across the earth. The video animations are controlled pixel-by-pixel via sound data gathered in real-time, including the amplitude, frequencies and envelopes of sounds that occur in the room. When no significant sound is sensed in the room, Stripes Too performs based on random and weighted-random parameters. This 3-D sculpture gives a different visual experience based on angle of viewing. Stripes Too may be seen from a front angle in the second part of the Balloon Release video at 2:10. Programmed by Judy Dunaway with MaxMSPJitter. The first video below is a silent video of Stripes Too, side angle (on YouTube), and the second is a short clip of Stripes Too interacting with the sound performance from Balloon Release.
