THE SOUND OF SKIN
"The Sound of Skin” (2003) for human skin and balloons, was premiered by Kattt Sammon Ensemble at the ACME Observatory in San Francisco, CA, December, 2003. It was commissioned by Sammon (now known by her married name, Kattt Atchley) for a performance of new event scores written in the style of the Fluxus movement event scores of the 1960’s (see embedded video below from Vimeo). The piece has also more recently been performed at the Hartford New Music Festival (Hartford, CT) in October 2013 and a solo version was performed by Janet Simone Parks at Crowell Concert Hall, Wesleyan University in May 2014 (see additional video below). The score is published by Material Press (Frankfurt). "The Sound of Skin” was inspired by Claes Oldenburg’s “Washes” (1965).
